Brown sugar brings warmth, depth, and a touch of nostalgia perfect for this year’s flavor obsession.
Brown sugar got Flavor of the Year award, further solidifying its status as a top-tier ingredient.
Bubble tea (boba) continues to be a global food trend, loved for its chewy tapioca pearls and playful presentation.
Together, they create a picture-perfect drink that’s as fun to make as it is to sip.
Ingredients (Serves 2)
½ cup tapioca pearls (boba)
½ cup brown sugar
½ cup water
2 cups milk (dairy or plant-based oat milk works great)
2–3 tea bags (black tea or green tea, depending on your taste)
Ice cubes
Recipe
Step 1: Cook the Boba
Boil water and cook tapioca pearls according to package directions (usually 15–20 mins).
Drain and rinse under cold water.
Step 2: Make Brown Sugar Syrup
In a saucepan, combine brown sugar and water.
Simmer until thick, glossy, and caramel-like.
Step 3: Coat the Pearls
Stir the cooked tapioca pearls into the brown sugar syrup.
Let them soak for at least 5 minutes to absorb the flavor.
Step 4: Brew the Tea
Brew strong tea and let it cool slightly.
Step 5: Assemble the Drink
Spoon the syrup-coated pearls into a tall glass.
Add ice cubes.
Pour in milk + brewed tea.
Stir gently to reveal the iconic “tiger stripes” of brown sugar syrup.
